PHACO

Phacoemulsification ( PHACO ) with implantation of intraocular lens (IOL ) is the method of choice for the removal of cataracts ( cataract ) . It is an ultrasonic surgical procedure with a small incision ( corneal tunnel ) , in which it is not necessary to sew the wound. Except in cases of cataract phacoemulsification can be used as an intervention for refractive surgery and for the correction of high diopter ( " clear lens extraction" ) , significant astigmatism using toric intraocular lenses , as well as the correction of presbyopia (' old age farsightedness ')with special multifocal lenses.

The lens is phacoemulsificated and aspirated , and in its place is placed the intraocular lens , made of modern polymer materials , adequate prescription values , with the aim of achieving emmetropy or release the patient from wearing correction in the form of glasses or contact lenses for the distance ,or in the case of installation of multifocal intraocular lenses , complete exemption from wearing glasses .

PHACO method is a modern approach to cataract surgery , which reduces the time of patients stay in the facility to one day ( one day surgery ) . This reduces the costs of treatment , and the entire recovery of patient is easier and faster . Shortly after the surgery , the patient can return to their normal life activities and work.

Benefits of PHACO methods are minimal incision , significantly less chance of complications, lower or nonexistent postoperative astigmatism , faster and more comprehensive vision rehabilitation , and almost immediate improvement in quality of life of the patient.

The final refraction is determined after four weeks of the surgery , unlike ECCE method . Disadvantage of PHACO methods are higher costs , the necessity of high-tech equipment , as well as the long time of training ophthalmologist to overcome these operational techniques .

Preoperative preparation

Preoperative preparation includes cleaning of the operative field , the application of local anesthesia and the spread of the pupil of the eye, commonly used mydriatics of short duration . modern trend in ophthalmic surgery is the use of local ( topical ) anesthesia drops. One-day surgery is done with this type of anesthesia , which is the standard on MILMEDIC clinic . There are numerous advantages of this approach . Recovery of visual acuity occurs almost immediately after surgery.

The patient in a very short period of time can return to normal life activities. The possibility of complications is reduced to a minimum. The patient is awake at all times during the operation. In this way, the entire operating process got a humanized nature. The patient has the option at any time feel free to communicate with eye surgeon during the operation.

Surgery Techniques

The main steps of surgery are: corneal tunnel incision , capsulorhexis , hydrodisection and hidrodelamination, phacoemulsification , aspiration of lens mass and ultimately flexible intraocular lens implantation in the capsular bag space through a tunnel incision .

There are several types of incisions , which have evolved with increasing experience in the performance of PHACO operations. The most advanced approach is corneal tunnel incision , which is applied in MILMEDIC .

MILMEDIC implants lenses of high quality , modern polymer composition , which are biologically inert. After the surgery the eye is temporarily closed until the first postoperative control that occurs during the next 24 hours , and after postoperative examination of the patient begins with eye drops postoperative therapy by clearly defined protocol and continued with their usual life activities.

With improved quality of life that inevitably follows after cataract surgery at the Clinic MILMEDIC , our greatest pleasure is happy and satisfied patient
